Annual Reports 2009 - 2010

The League of Friends AGM was held on 8th February 2011 and we were proud to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress of Burton, Councillor & Mrs Leese, Chairman of SDDC, Neil Atkin and Consort, Chairman of Queens Hospital, Jim Morrison and Michelle Clerc also from Queens Hospital.

Dr Colin Reisner stepped down as President and Nolan Salmon was elected as our new President, am sure he will keep us on our toes.

Pauline Spratt opened the meeting with the following:

Another year has quickly passed very quickly but it has been very busy and I welcome this opportunity to report on the work of the League and Phoenix

We promoted our celebration of 30 years fundraising and 20 years of PHR with a photographic display from the past in the hospital foyer and the exhibit raised a lot of interest. It certainly reminded me of the many different fundraising events I have been involved in over the past 30 years.

Firstly with the League you will see from the Balance sheet that we have been very successful and I will leave it to Sheila to report in depth.  It is always pleasing to meet the many and varied requests for the hospital.  From the letters of thanks you will see that we continue to supply over 1000 emergency admission toiletry packs each year, Flowers for the help desk and chapels. Christmas monies to provide festive treats for both patients and staff.

Our shop is doing extremely well and Julie manages to keep control of the team of volunteers (most of the time) and also the Bingo groups are well established

Our new events such as the Queen concert at Rosliston Forestry centre, Fashion show, Derbyshire Police Choir were very successful - not only in terms of money raised but as a platform  to inform a wider audience of the work that we do. I do feel that maybe we should look at spreading our wings more into South Derbyshire, Lichfield, Uttoxeter, even more that we do at present.

And now to Phoenix Radio, There are approximately 32 members who continue to broadcast 7 days a week with varying tasks. Some meet with the patients as they walk around the wards, others look after the library or produce and back up daily request programmes. You will all have a copy of the Station Manager's report and I am sure that he will have a few more words to say...

On a personal note, I have attended numerous meetings and seminars. Keeping up to date with the requirements and rules that need to be met when working with volunteers and charities

As Chairman, I have been invited to visit many differing organisations and groups to represent and talk about the work that we do - both within the League and Phoenix.

After 30 years Burton Hospital League of Friends Phoenix Radio continues to work well for the benefit of the patients in Queen's and Barton Cottage

In closing, to name names is always difficult but I believe special thanks must go to Sheila treasurer and to Rita Secretary, for their untiring work week by week.; Most importantly, I thank all of our volunteers for your hard work during 2010 and I hope that we will continue our work, maybe for the next 30 years - who knows?
