GIVING TO THE LEAGUE OF FRIENDS

The League now has its own page on the Just Giving website.

Anyone can log onto www.justgiving.com and either donate online to the League. Alternatively anyone who wants to hold a sponsored event can set up their own sponsorship page enabling people to sponsor them online and the League then receives the funds raised.

It is also possible for the League to reclaim the Gift Aid (25% of each donation) easily this way.

April 2009

Burton Hospitals League of Friends have officially opened their shop at the main entrance of the hospital. The ribbon was cut jointly by Janet Dean MP a long time supporter of the work of the League, Pauline Spratt, Chairman and Lady Clarke, whose charity made a substatial donation to the fitting out of the shop. Pauline said "We opened at Christmas and to date it is proving very successful. A far cry from the table top sales we used to have, when we had to set up and take down every day. The shop is a bright and airy environment, selling mainly donated books, bric a brac and hand knitted baby clothes, scarf's and bed socks. We buy in a few promotional pens, pencils, mugs, pads etc. and also small 'Aids for Daily Living' but we always welcome more donations. It seems to be well worth waiting for"

We still continue our other fundraising events. On May 22nd we have our 9th Annual Summer Ball at the Burton Town Hall, with drinks on arrival, a superb 4 course meal and a band to dance the night away, complete with tombola and an auction with brilliant items on offer - it is always a popular evening. We also hold a monthly bingo session which brings in the elderly members of community for an evening out also. Flower Arranging demonstrations, a Concert by the Gresly Male Voice Choir and the annual sponsored Dog Walk are all to follow in the summer. Further information on any of these events from Pauline.

AN EXCITING NEW VENTURE

We have been operating our Donated Book sales for over 15 years from under the stairs. However, we are looking forward to selling them from our very own shop, which will be by the front entrance, behind the screens pictured to the right.

This will give us a much awaited opportunity to enhance the work of the League and certainly make shopping more comfortable for our customers. It is early days yet but we are hoping to sell a range of quality items both donated and new. Watch this space for further information.
